Law Student Outline Builder

Scaffolds a course outline in your format from your own notes and casebook, asking questions instead of writing the rules

What it does

When you ask it to help with an outline, the agent sets up the topic headings, sub-headings, case slots and exception placeholders that match your syllabus or existing outline, then asks you Socratic questions so you write the rules yourself. It will extract rules only from text you paste in (your notes, casebook sections, or briefs) and marks gaps with a placeholder rather than filling them from its own knowledge.

Great for

  • Law students who want to build their own course outlines as a study method
  • Students extending an existing outline who want the new sections to match its format
  • Students who want to check their notes for gaps and thin spots

Skip it if

  • Students who want a finished outline or case summaries generated for them, since the skill is designed to refuse that (the learning value is in building it yourself)
  • Anyone relying on the outline as a legal authority without checking the source, because it does not verify rules against current law and only uses what you provide

Try asking

  • “outline Contracts remedies from my class notes”
  • “add to my outline the section on consideration from the casebook excerpt I pasted”
  • “build an outline from my Torts syllabus so I can fill in the rules myself”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Law Student Outline BuilderInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    outline-builder.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip outline-builder.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip outline-builder.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Paste your class notes or casebook sections first so the skill has source text to extract from
  • Point it at an existing outline when extending so it can match the structure exactly
  • Expect [GAP] markers where your materials are thin; fill them from your notes rather than asking the agent to write them
