What it does

This skill gives an AI agent a structured playbook for finding security weaknesses in APIs, the connection points that apps use to exchange data. It covers the OWASP API Security Top 10 (2023), such as checking whether one user can access another user's data, whether login endpoints limit guessing attempts, and whether admin functions are exposed to ordinary accounts. It also includes example commands (curl, Python, bash loops) and tool guidance for Burp Suite, Postman, grpcurl, websocat and mitmproxy. The skill is written for authorized penetration testing and says every technique assumes written permission and a defined scope.

Great for

  • Security professionals running authorized penetration tests against API-driven applications
  • Students learning API security methodology and the OWASP API Top 10
  • Developers who want to check their own APIs for common authorization flaws before release

Skip it if

  • Testing systems you do not own or have no written permission to test, since the techniques include brute-force login attempts and resource-exhaustion payloads that can be illegal and disruptive
  • Production systems without a rate-limit or load-testing plan, because the sample loops can trigger lockouts, outages or large data pulls

Try asking

  • “Walk me through testing my staging API for BOLA/IDOR, with a checklist and curl commands”
  • “Create a rate-limiting test plan for our login endpoint, staying within our agreed scope”
  • “Help me evaluate our gRPC service for reflection exposure and metadata injection issues”
  • “Turn these test results into a findings report with reproduction steps and severity ratings”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    offensive-api-security.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip offensive-api-security.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip offensive-api-security.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • State the authorized target, scope and rules of engagement at the start so the agent keeps its testing within them
  • Use a staging or test environment with dedicated test accounts rather than real customer data
  • Review every generated command before running it, especially loops that send many requests or large payloads
