What it does
Obsidian is a note-taking app that uses plain Markdown files with extra special syntax, such as links between notes, embedded images and notes, highlighted call-out boxes, and metadata headers. This skill teaches the AI agent that Obsidian-specific syntax so that when it writes or edits a note, it uses these features correctly instead of producing generic Markdown. It contains instructions and reference guides only; it does not add any tools or run any code.
Great for
- People who keep a personal knowledge base or vault in Obsidian and want an agent to draft or tidy notes
- Students or researchers who want consistently formatted study notes with links and callouts
- Developers maintaining documentation stored in an Obsidian vault
Skip it if
- Standard Markdown for GitHub, blogs or other tools, where wikilinks, callouts and embeds will not render (it covers only Obsidian-specific extensions)
- Tasks that require the agent to read or change your vault directly in the app; the skill only shapes the text the agent writes, so the agent does not verify rendering in Obsidian
Try asking
- “Create a new Obsidian note for my meeting on 10 January with frontmatter tags and links to my project notes”
- “Convert this list of bullet points into a note with a warning callout and wikilinks to related topics”
- “Add an embedded image and a collapsible FAQ callout to my study note on photosynthesis”
- “Fix the properties block at the top of this note so the aliases and tags are valid”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Name the note or vault file explicitly so the agent knows which .md file to create or edit.
- Ask for specific features (for example a collapsible callout or a block ID) so the agent uses the matching reference guide.
- Open the result in Obsidian's reading view to confirm links and embeds resolve, since the agent cannot check this for you.
