What it does
It teaches an agent to take your past Claude Code and/or Codex chat history (your prompts and the agents' replies) on your own machine, import it into a cognee memory dataset, and then answer questions about what you worked on across all those agents. It runs an included cookbook, first checks which agents are installed, asks you which agents and projects to include, and only then imports. Later questions can reuse the same memory without re-importing.
Great for
- Developers who use Claude Code or Codex and want one searchable memory of past work
- Teams or individuals who want several coding agents to share the same history of earlier sessions
- People who want to recall what earlier coding sessions were about
Skip it if
- Users without Claude Code or Codex history, who only need the demo (it uses sample data, not their own sessions)
- Anyone unwilling to send their session text to an LLM provider, since every imported session is sent to the provider behind the chosen API key and costs LLM calls
- Projects holding confidential code or secrets: redaction only catches common key formats and secret-named values, so sensitive content may still be sent
Try asking
- “Import my Claude Code sessions from the last month for the project in ~/work/api and ask what I changed in auth”
- “Set up a shared memory from my Claude Code and Codex history and tell me what I was debugging last week”
- “Run the cognee session import demo so I can see how it works before using my own history”
- “Ask my imported agent sessions which database migrations I discussed”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip multiagent-memory-setup.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip multiagent-memory-setup.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Start with the default 20-session limit and a --since date to keep the first import small and cheap
- Pick specific projects rather than all projects if your machine holds work you can't share with an LLM provider
- Check a few files in the sessions folder before a large import to see what will be sent
