What it does
When a law student asks for help with a case memo, this skill makes the agent produce a structured IRAC outline (Issue, Rule, Application, Conclusion) rather than an answer. It frames the legal questions, marks the rules the student must research as gaps, lists the facts to consider, and leaves the application and conclusion blank for the student to write. It also reads a supervisor's settings file that controls how much the agent helps, such as guide, assist, or teach modes.
Great for
- Law clinic students who must write an internal case analysis memo and want structure without being handed the answer
- Supervisors or professors who want students to do the legal reasoning themselves
- Students who need a checklist of research gaps to work through systematically
Skip it if
- Practising lawyers or anyone needing a finished legal memo or verified law, since the skill deliberately produces no conclusions and its rule statements are unverified framework starting points that must be checked against the actual jurisdiction
- Anyone relying on the output as legal advice, because it is an educational scaffold and the files do not provide authoritative legal sources
Try asking
- “/legal-clinic:memo for my landlord-tenant case about the broken heater”
- “Scaffold an IRAC memo for my client's habitability defense, focusing on rent offset”
- “Help me frame the issues in these intake notes as legal questions for my case memo”

No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Set up the CLAUDE.md jurisdiction and practice-area config first so the scaffold targets the right state law.
- Verify every framework rule and VERIFY flag against primary sources for your jurisdiction before relying on it.
- Ask the agent to focus on one issue with the optional argument to keep the memo manageable.
