What it does

This skill lets an AI assistant answer quick "is this a problem?" questions the way an in-house legal team would. It checks the question against a risk calibration table the company has written, then replies with one of three verdicts: fine, needs a closer look, or hold, each with a one-sentence reason and a next step. It also watches for questions that sound simple but hide a trap, such as customer logos on a website or adding a new data vendor, and asks one clarifying question before answering.

Great for

  • In-house product managers who need a same-minute answer on a routine legal question
  • Legal teams triaging a backlog of informal Slack questions from the business
  • Anyone at a company already using the claude-for-legal product-legal plugin with a configured risk calibration

Skip it if

  • Final legal advice on high-stakes matters: the skill is a triage shortcut that pattern-matches to a calibration table and routes the rest to a human lawyer
  • Users without a configured CLAUDE.md risk calibration file: the skill depends on that table and will not have company-specific rules to apply
  • Questions sent to people outside the privilege circle without review: the skill itself warns that public channels or counterparties can waive protection

Try asking

  • “Is this a problem? Can we use customer logos on the pricing page?”
  • “Quick question: can we A/B test the pricing page across user segments?”
  • “Sanity check: we want to add a new analytics vendor to the integration. Do I need legal review?”
  • “Can we auto-enroll existing users into the new feature by default?”

Get better results

  • Set up the Risk calibration table in your product-legal CLAUDE.md first, otherwise the verdicts will be generic rather than tailored to your company's rules.
  • Include the exact wording of the PM's question and any destination (channel, list, counterparty) so the skill can check whether the output is inside the privilege circle.
  • Treat a Fine verdict as a fast first pass; if the question touches personal data, AI, publicity or a new vendor, expect a follow-up question or a routing recommendation.
