What it does
Teaches the agent how Google Cloud Storage works and how to create buckets, upload, download, copy, move and delete objects, set access controls, lifecycle rules, versioning and storage classes. When a Cloud Storage MCP server is connected, the agent calls its structured tools; otherwise it uses the gcloud command line or the API. Reference files cover client libraries, Terraform, gcsfuse mounts, transfers and performance tuning.
Great for
- Developers who need to script or automate Cloud Storage operations on a Google Cloud project
- Data or ML engineers moving large datasets in and out of buckets
- Teams setting up storage access, retention or lifecycle policies
Skip it if
- Destructive bulk changes without review: the skill tells the agent to confirm before deleting or overwriting, but a mistaken delete in a production bucket is hard to undo
- Block storage (Persistent Disk), BigQuery or database work, which the skill explicitly excludes
Try asking
- “Create a regional bucket in europe-west2 with versioning and a 90-day lifecycle delete rule”
- “Upload the contents of ./reports to gs://my-project-reports and list what was written”
- “Generate a signed URL valid for one hour for an object in my bucket”
- “Mount a bucket on my Linux VM with gcsfuse”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip google-cloud-storage-basics.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip google-cloud-storage-basics.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Connect the Cloud Storage MCP server first so the agent uses structured tools instead of shell commands
- Review every delete or overwrite request the agent proposes before confirming, and scope permissions to specific buckets
- Ask for a dry run or a list of affected objects before bulk operations like recursive deletes or rsync
