What it does

Once installed, the agent follows a set of GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine) reliability practices when you ask it to make an app more resilient. It checks whether a cluster is regional, whether apps have Pod Disruption Budgets, and whether containers have liveness, readiness and startup health probes. It can also suggest graceful shutdown settings and topology spread rules so pods are distributed across zones and nodes. It mainly gives guidance and YAML snippets, and it can inspect existing resources through Google's cloud and Kubernetes tools.

Great for

  • Platform or DevOps engineers hardening production workloads on GKE
  • Developers who want their Kubernetes apps to survive node upgrades and zone failures
  • Teams reviewing whether existing deployments follow reliability defaults

Skip it if

  • Generating full Kubernetes manifests from scratch: the skill routes that task to a different skill (gke-manifest-generation)
  • Disaster recovery or cluster backups: the skill routes that task to gke-backup-dr
  • Non-GKE Kubernetes or non-Kubernetes apps, since the guidance is specific to GKE defaults and tooling

Try asking

  • “Check whether my GKE cluster is regional and whether its nodes span multiple zones”
  • “Set up a PodDisruptionBudget for my my-app deployment with 3 replicas”
  • “Review the health probes on my API deployment and recommend liveness, readiness and startup settings”
  • “Spread my pods across zones and nodes using topology spread constraints”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 2 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    gke-reliability.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip gke-reliability.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip gke-reliability.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Ask for a read-only review first; the skill lists resources before suggesting changes, so keep apply actions under your own control
  • Give the agent the project, region and cluster name so it can run the checks without guessing
  • Test probe timings in a staging cluster, since the example values (for instance a 2-second timeout) may not suit your app
