What it does

This skill lets an AI agent act as a discipline tool for business decisions. When you record a major, hard-to-undo decision (like a layoff plan or multi-year contract), the agent marks it as frozen for a set number of days and writes that status into a decision record and an index file. While frozen, the agent's routing layer is meant to refuse to reopen the debate unless a pre-set kill criterion triggers, and overrides are logged for later review.

Great for

  • Founders or executives who want a written cooling-off period after a tough decision made under pressure
  • Teams using the c-level-agents advisory setup who want decisions protected from repeated re-debate
  • People studying how AI agents can enforce a process rather than just giving advice

Skip it if

  • Decisions that need to be revisited quickly, such as urgent operational or safety issues, because the lock is designed to resist reversal and can delay needed changes
  • Anyone expecting a hard technical guarantee: the freeze is enforced by the agent following instructions in the file, not by a system lock, so it can be bypassed or ignored
  • Users without the surrounding c-level-agents framework, since the skill depends on other skills, a chief-of-staff agent and a boardroom command that are referenced but not included in this file

Try asking

  • “/c-level-agents:freeze the layoff plan for 30 days”
  • “/c-level-agents:freeze release pricing-change-q3 with reason: new competitor data”
  • “Lock our multi-year cloud contract decision for 90 days before we sign”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Decision Cooldown LockInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    freeze.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip freeze.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip freeze.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Record the kill criteria explicitly in the decision record before freezing, since automatic release depends on them
  • Use the release command with a clear written reason so overrides show up honestly at post-mortem
  • Treat the freeze as a process aid, not a legal or contractual commitment, and check that the referenced files exist in your installation
