What it does

When you give the agent a plan file (a markdown checklist of tasks, usually named like plans/date-task-version.md), this skill tells it to read the whole plan, work through the pending tasks one at a time, and mark each as in progress and then done in the file. It also makes the agent re-check the file at the end before saying the plan is finished. It is a workflow discipline rather than a tool that does the work itself, so the actual results depend on what the agent does for each task.

Great for

  • Developers who keep multi-step refactoring or feature plans in markdown files and want the agent to follow them in order
  • Teams that use checklist-style plans and want visible progress tracking inside the file
  • Anyone who wants a clear record of which tasks were started, finished, or failed

Skip it if

  • Quick one-off questions or small edits, where the plan overhead adds nothing
  • Plans with destructive or irreversible steps (such as deleting data or deploying to production) run without reviewing each step, because the skill pushes the agent to finish all tasks without stopping for approval
  • Plans whose tasks are vague or depend on decisions only a person can make, since the skill assumes each task can be completed autonomously

Try asking

  • “Execute plan at plans/2025-11-23-refactor-auth-v1.md”
  • “Work through the pending tasks in my plans/ migration file and mark each one done as you go”
  • “Follow the plan file I just wrote for the API cleanup and tell me when everything is complete”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    execute-plan.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip execute-plan.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip execute-plan.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Break large plans into specific, testable tasks so the agent can finish each one without guessing.
  • Review the plan file's status markers after the run; the agent may mark tasks done that need your checking.
  • Keep a version control commit before running a plan so any unwanted changes are easy to revert.
