What it does

This skill teaches the agent a finance-analyst framework for reading company earnings. Once installed, when asked about a stock's earnings, the agent can judge whether analyst estimates are being revised up or down, how big a result was versus expectations, and whether management's guidance language is positive or negative. It also explains post-earnings price drift (PEAD), the tendency of stock prices to keep moving in the direction of an earnings surprise for 60-90 days, and lists earnings-quality red flags such as cash flow lagging reported profit. The file is a reference guide with formulas and rules of thumb; it does not contain live market data or a finished trading system.

Great for

  • Equity analysts or students who want a structured checklist for earnings season
  • Investors researching US or Hong Kong listed companies before an earnings report
  • Quant researchers looking for documented earnings-based factor definitions to build on

Skip it if

  • People expecting real-time or verified financial data: the skill has no data source and the agent must still obtain figures elsewhere, so it may invent numbers if none are supplied
  • Making actual trading decisions without independent review: the return ranges quoted are generic, not validated for any specific stock or period, and acting on them can cause financial loss
  • Non-US/HK markets: the skill is scoped to US/HK equities and its thresholds are not calibrated for other exchanges

Try asking

  • “Here is a company's last four quarters of EPS actuals and consensus. Compute the SUE for each and tell me whether the surprises look like PEAD candidates.”
  • “Analyze this earnings release for guidance language. Is the company raising, reaffirming, or quietly cutting its full-year outlook?”
  • “Using the pre-earnings checklist, prepare a consensus snapshot and list the key items to watch for this quarter's report on this US stock.”
  • “Check this earnings report for red flags such as cash flow falling behind revenue growth or a large gap between GAAP and non-GAAP EPS.”

    Ask for the task

No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Supply the actual consensus, actuals, and guidance figures yourself, with sources, so the agent does not have to estimate them.
  • Treat the percentage return ranges and thresholds as starting points to test against your own data, not as established facts for a given stock.
  • Ask for the reasoning behind any signal, so you can check the guidance-language interpretations against the actual filing text.
