What it does

When a law clinic student needs a first draft of a court filing, letter, or declaration, this skill reads the clinic's saved templates, jurisdiction settings and case notes, then writes a draft with explicit placeholders such as [FACT NEEDED], [VERIFY] and [UNCERTAIN] wherever facts are missing or legal points need checking. It also labels the output as AI-assisted, adds a review checklist, and routes it to a supervising professor before anything is filed. Depending on the supervisor's teaching setting, it may make the student write sections first and only give feedback.

Great for

  • Law clinic students who need a starting structure for a motion, letter, petition or declaration
  • Clinic professors who want drafts to follow a consistent template and supervision workflow
  • Teams already using the claude-for-legal plugin with a configured legal-clinic CLAUDE.md

Skip it if

  • Filing-ready documents or anyone relying on the draft without attorney review; the skill states drafts are starting points and court filings must go through supervision first
  • Matters in a different state or court than the clinic's configured jurisdiction, because formatting, deadlines and rules vary and the skill assumes the saved settings
  • Document types outside the clinic's template set, where the skill itself warns the output is untuned and risky

Try asking

  • “/legal-clinic:draft eviction-answer”
  • “/legal-clinic:draft asylum-declaration”
  • “/legal-clinic:draft demand-letter for a security deposit dispute”
  • “/legal-clinic:draft protective-order-petition”

Get better results

  • Set up CLAUDE.md with your jurisdiction, local rules and supervision style first, since the skill relies on them and flags what is missing.
  • Give complete case notes; the more facts provided, the fewer [FACT NEEDED] placeholders remain.
  • Treat every legal assertion in the draft as a hypothesis to verify against current rules before filing.
