What it does
When you ask your AI agent to create or name a Git branch, this skill makes it follow the Conventional Branch naming standard: a type prefix such as feature/, bugfix/, hotfix/, release/ or chore/, followed by a short lowercase description. It also adds AI-agent prefixes (ai/, copilot/, cursor/, claude/, codex/) so AI-generated branches are easy to spot, and it checks names against the rules (no spaces, uppercase, underscores or doubled hyphens). The agent then walks through picking the right base branch, creating the branch and reminding you how to push it.
Great for
- Developers who want consistent, readable branch names across a team
- Teams that run branch-name linting such as commit-check in CI or pre-commit hooks
- People who let AI coding agents create branches and want them labelled clearly
Skip it if
- Repositories with their own branch naming policy, since this spec may conflict with it (the agent would follow the skill, not your house rules)
- Users who have no Git workflow; the skill assumes you already work with Git and a remote named origin
Try asking
- “Create a branch for adding OAuth login to this project”
- “Check whether the branch name fix/header_bug follows the naming spec and suggest a fix”
- “Make a release branch for version 2.3.0 following Conventional Branch”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Tell the agent the ticket number and a short purpose so it can build a clear name, e.g. feature/issue-123-add-oauth.
- Review the suggested base branch before the agent runs git checkout and git pull, especially in repos that do not use main.
- Use the vendor-specific AI prefix only if you know which agent made the branch; otherwise ai/ is the neutral choice.
