What it does

Once installed, the agent follows a structured playbook for competitor analysis instead of giving generic answers. It can identify direct, indirect and future competitors, build one-page sales battlecards, run SWOT and feature-gap comparisons, draft positioning maps, and suggest a monthly and quarterly cadence for tracking rivals and sharing findings with sales, marketing, product and leadership. It is written as strategy guidance for business leaders rather than a tool that gathers live data.

Great for

  • Founders or executives who want a repeatable competitor-tracking routine
  • Sales and marketing leads preparing battlecards and positioning updates
  • Product managers comparing their feature set against rivals

Skip it if

  • Gathering live competitor data: the files describe where to look (pricing pages, job boards, Crunchbase) but include no code that fetches it, so the agent's facts may be outdated or invented unless you supply sources
  • Legal or ethical edge cases: the skill does not address confidentiality or lawful collection limits, so check your own policies before tracking rivals' customers or staff

Try asking

  • “Map our competitive landscape, including direct, indirect and future competitors”
  • “Build a battlecard for [competitor] that sales can use before calls”
  • “Run a win/loss analysis from these recent deal notes”
  • “Build a competitive positioning map for our product versus three rivals”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Competitive IntelligenceInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 3 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    competitive-intel.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip competitive-intel.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip competitive-intel.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give the agent your own data (deal notes, churn reasons, pricing sheets) so outputs are grounded in facts rather than general assumptions
  • Verify every competitor claim against primary sources before putting a battlecard in front of sales staff
  • Ask for the specific deliverable by name (battlecard, SWOT, feature gap table) to use the included templates
