What it does

When installed, the agent writes git commit messages and pull request titles using one fixed pattern: a bracketed change type (FEAT, FIX, DOCS, REFACTOR, TEST or CHORE), then the function, class, module or file the change touches, then a short imperative description. For example, it would produce a line like [FIX][Agent._run][Raise AgentLLMError after retry exhaustion]. It only changes the format of text the agent writes; it does not run git or touch your code.

Great for

  • Contributors to the swarms repository who want commit and PR titles that match the project's convention
  • Maintainers reviewing whether a commit title follows the WARP-style format
  • Developers adopting a similar bracketed commit style in their own project who want an agent to follow it

Skip it if

  • Projects with a different commit convention, such as Conventional Commits, since the agent will apply the swarms format instead of yours
  • Anyone expecting the skill to inspect diffs or commit automatically; the file only describes the format and includes no code to read changes

Try asking

  • “Write a commit message for my changes to the Agent._run retry logic”
  • “Suggest a PR title for this branch that adds multi-directory skill loading”
  • “Rewrite these commit titles to follow the swarms [TYPE][Target][Description] format”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Commit Message WriterInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    commit-messages.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip commit-messages.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip commit-messages.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Paste the diff or a summary of your change so the agent can pick the right TYPE and target name.
  • Check that the function or file name the agent chooses matches the real identifier in the code.
  • The skill lists six TYPE values; if your change fits none of them, ask the agent to explain the closest choice rather than inventing a new one.
