What it does

This is a one-time setup interview for a supervising professor running a law school legal clinic. When run, the agent asks about the clinic's practice areas, jurisdiction, supervision style, and handbook or court-rule documents, then writes a plain-text CLAUDE.md file in the user's Claude config folder. Other skills in the legal-clinic plugin, and students running the onboarding skill, read that file so they all work from the same clinic setup. It can also re-check which connected tools (such as Clio or document storage) are actually reachable.

Great for

  • Supervising attorneys or professors launching a law school clinic that will use the legal-clinic plugin
  • Clinic administrators who need to update setup after adding or removing a connector
  • Teams who want consistent clinic context across students and skills

Skip it if

  • Anyone who is not a supervising attorney: the skill stops and redirects if the user is not the supervising attorney, and students are meant to use the separate onboarding command instead
  • Non-legal or general users, since it is specific to law clinic practice and ethical preconditions
  • Anyone expecting the setup to verify legal accuracy: it records what the professor enters and does not check jurisdiction rules itself

Try asking

  • “/cold-start-interview to start the first-time clinic setup”
  • “/cold-start-interview --redo to redo the clinic setup from scratch”
  • “/cold-start-interview --check-integrations to re-test which connectors are working”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Law Clinic Setup InterviewInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    cold-start-interview.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip cold-start-interview.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip cold-start-interview.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Start with quick mode to get basic defaults, then upgrade to full mode for ethical preconditions, supervision triggers and semester dates
  • Install user-scoped rather than project-scoped so the agent can read documents from Downloads or Documents
  • Use --check-integrations after adding a connector; the skill only marks a connector as working after a real tool call succeeds
