What it does
This skill teaches an AI agent how to explore an unfamiliar codebase using a Codebase Memory graph exposed through an MCP server. Instead of grepping blindly, the agent finds symbols, callers, callees, dependencies, module structure and likely impact through the graph, then confirms important findings by reading the actual source files. It also defines evidence levels so the agent does not overstate absence or completeness claims, such as saying dead code is unused when the index may be incomplete.
Great for
- Developers working in large or unfamiliar repositories who need to map architecture or trace call paths
- Teams doing impact analysis before refactoring code
- Reviewers auditing dead or complex code, provided they verify graph results against source
Skip it if
- Small single-file tasks or exact text lookups, where ordinary search is faster and the skill itself says to skip the graph
- Situations needing guaranteed completeness without source checks, since the graph index can be stale or partial and the skill warns against trusting it alone
Try asking
- “Map the architecture of this repo and show me the main module boundaries”
- “Who calls the function processPayment, and what would break if I change its signature?”
- “Find all HTTP route handlers related to user authentication”
- “Is this helper function dead code anywhere in the project?”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Install and index the repository with the Codebase Memory MCP server first, otherwise the skill falls back to plain local exploration.
- Ask explicitly for exhaustive or dead-code checks so the agent uses its stricter Auditor level, and expect it to state limitations when coverage is incomplete.
- Re-index after large branch changes, since the skill tells the agent to verify index freshness before making edit-sensitive conclusions.
