What it does

Once installed, the agent acts as an interactive tutor for the GitHub Copilot command-line tool. You say "cliexpert" or "teach me the Copilot CLI" and it walks you through lessons on slash commands, keyboard shortcuts, modes, agents, skills, MCP and configuration, then runs quizzes and scenario challenges. It tracks your XP and level in a local SQLite table, and it can answer specific CLI questions directly from a built-in reference.

Great for

  • Developers who are new to the GitHub Copilot CLI and want a guided walkthrough
  • Teams onboarding members to Copilot CLI features before a rollout
  • Anyone who wants a quick quiz or cheat sheet on CLI commands

Skip it if

  • General coding help or IDE-only Copilot features, which the skill says it should not handle
  • Anyone expecting up-to-date answers beyond the bundled reference files, since the content may lag behind CLI changes

Try asking

  • “cliexpert”
  • “Quiz me on slash commands”
  • “Give me a CLI cheat sheet for modes and shortcuts”
  • “Start the Copilot CLI final exam”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Copilot CLI MasteryInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 11 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    cli-mastery.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip cli-mastery.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip cli-mastery.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Say "cliexpert" to begin, then follow the module order for the smoothest path
  • Ask for a quiz after each lesson to lock in what you learned
  • Use "reference" with a topic name when you only need a quick summary
