What it does
This skill teaches an AI agent to operate a ChromaDB vector database through a command-line tool instead of a web interface. Once installed, the agent can check whether the server is running, list, create, inspect and delete collections, add, read, count and delete documents, and run semantic searches that find text by meaning. Output can be returned as JSON so the agent can parse results.
Great for
- Developers who already run a ChromaDB server and want an agent to manage its collections
- Data or AI engineers building retrieval workflows who need quick semantic searches from scripts or agents
- Power users who prefer terminal tools over a browser UI for vector databases
Skip it if
- Users without a running ChromaDB server, since the tool connects to one at localhost:8000 by default and cannot do anything without it
- Deleting collections or documents on a production database without review, because the delete commands act directly on live data
- Non-technical users who need a point-and-click interface, since this is a terminal tool requiring Python and a local server
Try asking
- “Check whether my ChromaDB server is healthy and tell me its version”
- “List all collections and show the document count for hub_knowledge”
- “Run a semantic search in the hub_knowledge collection for how to deploy and return the JSON results”
- “Add these three documents to a new collection called project_notes”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Always pass the --json flag when an agent needs to parse output, and check the return code for errors
- Use --host to point at a non-default ChromaDB instance, and confirm it is the intended one before deleting anything
- Test against a non-production or backup ChromaDB instance first, since delete commands are irreversible from this skill's documentation
