What it does
This skill teaches an AI agent to control a self-hosted AdGuard Home network ad-blocker through a command-line tool instead of its web interface. Once installed, the agent can check server status, add or toggle blocklists, add local DNS rewrites, manage client devices and DHCP leases, and read or clear query logs, using a JSON output mode it can parse. It assumes AdGuard Home is already installed and running on your network.
Great for
- Home-lab or power users who run AdGuard Home and want an AI assistant to make routine changes
- Network administrators who prefer scripting DNS and filter management over clicking through a GUI
- Developers building agent workflows that need to read AdGuard Home state in structured form
Skip it if
- Users who do not run AdGuard Home: the skill only wraps an existing server and cannot block ads on its own
- Changes to a production network without review: commands such as restart, filter removal, log clearing and DHCP changes can disrupt connectivity and the skill gives no confirmation step
- Anyone who would paste admin credentials into a chat with an agent, since the tool needs access to the AdGuard Home API
Try asking
- “Check whether AdGuard Home protection is on and which version is running”
- “Add a new blocklist from a URL and refresh all filter lists”
- “Create a local DNS rewrite so myserver.local resolves to 192.168.1.50”
- “List DHCP leases and add a static lease for a known device”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Run the connection test command before other commands so failures are caught early
- Ask the agent to show the current state (for example filter list or DHCP leases) and confirm before any restart, removal or clear action
- Use a dedicated AdGuard Home account with limited rights where possible, and review the config file the save command writes
