What it does

Once installed, the agent can turn a patent claim or a legal cause of action into a table of individual elements, then map each element against evidence or an accused product with a pin cite for every entry. Its main output is a list of gaps: elements the record does not yet support. It also adds a standing warning that every mapping is a draft lead for an attorney to verify, not a finding.

Great for

  • Litigation attorneys or paralegals preparing an element-by-element analysis of a complaint, defense, or patent
  • In-house legal teams that want a first-pass evidence gap list before discovery or a motion
  • Law students learning how claim charts and element analysis are structured

Skip it if

  • Final legal opinions or filed contentions: the skill says its output is a draft, and controlling jury instructions, statutes, or Markman orders may differ from its templates
  • Use with disclosed or discovery-obtained documents without first confirming use restrictions (such as CPR 31.22 or protective orders), since the skill itself flags this as a legal risk
  • Jurisdictions or claim types outside the included element templates, where the agent must rely on the user to supply the controlling authority

Try asking

  • “Build an infringement claim chart for claim 1 of patent US 1234567 against our competitor's product manual.”
  • “Create a civil element chart for a negligence claim and tell me what evidence we are missing.”
  • “Review this existing invalidity chart for missing pin cites and unsupported elements.”
  • “What are we missing to prove breach of contract in this matter?”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Claim Chart BuilderInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 2 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    claim-chart.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip claim-chart.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip claim-chart.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Configure your practice profile first (cold-start interview) so jurisdiction, role, and house style are applied instead of generic defaults.
  • Supply the controlling pattern instruction, statute, or Markman order up front; the skill asks you to confirm these before mapping.
  • Treat the gap list as the priority output and verify every pin cite against the source document before relying on it.
