What it does
This is a set of written instructions that tells an AI assistant how to handle cease-and-desist letters, which are formal demands to stop allegedly infringing an intellectual property right such as a trademark or copyright. In send mode, the agent walks through identifying the right being asserted, the conduct, the relationship with the other party, and the demand, then drafts a letter calibrated to a configured enforcement posture, with a review gate before anything is finalized. In receive mode, it helps analyze a letter someone sent you, identifies exposure, lays out response options, and writes an options memo with a recommendation.
Great for
- In-house or practice-group IP lawyers who want a structured first draft and triage memo for enforcement letters
- Legal teams already configured with the plugin's practice profile, enforcement posture and approval matrix
- Non-lawyers who need a one-page brief to take to an attorney before a letter is sent or answered
Skip it if
- Anyone wanting to send or answer a legal letter without attorney review, since the skill itself says sending a C&D is a first step toward litigation and can expose the sender to declaratory judgment actions or bad-faith claims
- Matters in jurisdictions other than the ones declared in the practice profile, since trademark rights are territorial and the draft may not apply as written
Try asking
- “/ip-legal:cease-desist --send to draft a demand letter against a counterfeit seller using our registered trademark”
- “/ip-legal:cease-desist --receive ~/Downloads/incoming-cd.pdf to triage a cease-and-desist we received from a competitor”
- “/ip-legal:cease-desist --send for a copyright infringement demand on an unregistered photo, with a flag about registration requirements”
- “/ip-legal:cease-desist to be asked whether we are sending or receiving a letter, then dispatched”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Run /ip-legal:cold-start-interview first; the skill stops and asks for setup if the practice profile still has placeholders.
- Have an attorney review every draft, citation and gate output before anything is sent, and keep the work-product header off the outgoing letter as the skill instructs.
- Give precise details up front: registration numbers, classes, jurisdictions and first-use dates, since registered rights are cited by number and unregistered ones need evidence paragraphs.
