What it does

When a bug report is vague, intermittent, or tied to one environment, this skill makes the AI agent first prove the smallest failure that can be observed. It records the exact error, the expected versus actual behaviour, the environment, and the steps needed to reproduce it, then reduces the case to the smallest safe test. The agent is told to stop there and not edit code, so diagnosis and repair happen separately.

Great for

  • Developers handling bug reports that say 'it sometimes fails' or 'only works on my machine'
  • Teams who want evidence of a failure before anyone proposes a fix
  • Anyone triaging a failing test or request before starting debugging

Skip it if

  • Simple bugs with a clear stack trace and known steps, where the extra process adds little value
  • Situations where the agent would need to reproduce against production data, since the skill advises against this and the reason is risk to real customers

Try asking

  • “Use the Bug Reproduction Brief skill on the intermittent checkout test failure. Do not fix it yet.”
  • “Reduce this flaky login bug report to the smallest safe failing fixture and list the unknowns.”
  • “Build a reproduction brief for the staging-only crash reported by QA, including the environment details.”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    bug-reproduction-brief.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip bug-reproduction-brief.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip bug-reproduction-brief.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give the agent the exact bug report text and any logs, so it can label second-hand claims as unverified.
  • Ask for a minimal script or isolated test rather than a reproduction against production or staging systems.
  • Note that the skill itself runs no code; the agent may run test commands in your project when reproducing, so review those commands and keep credentials out of the prompt.
