Batch File Operations

Apply one operation to many files at once by splitting them across parallel worker agents

What it does

When you type /batch with an operation and a file pattern, the agent finds matching files, skips common noise like node_modules, tests, lock files and large or binary files, splits the rest into chunks, and hands each chunk to a separate worker agent that edits or transforms the files in parallel. It then collects the results into a summary listing successes, failures and skips. It can also suggest that you run a separate asynchronous batch command for large, independent one-shot transforms, but it cannot start that itself.

Great for

  • Developers who need the same change (adding a license header, adding doc comments, converting a file format) applied across many source files
  • Teams doing repetitive codebase refactors who want a per-file success/failure report

Skip it if

  • Edits that depend on each other across files, since workers run independently and may conflict (reason: no coordination between parallel workers)
  • Large or important codebases without version control or a backup, because the skill edits files in place and can write to disk and run shell commands (reason: changes are hard to undo)

Try asking

  • “/batch Add Apache 2.0 license header to all .ts files in src/”
  • “/batch Add JSDoc comments to all exported functions in lib/**/*.js”
  • “/batch Convert all .js files in components/ to use ES module imports”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Batch File OperationsInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    batch.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip batch.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip batch.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Use a narrow file pattern and check the file count the agent reports before letting it proceed; over 100 files it will ask you to narrow the pattern
  • Commit your work to git first so you can review and revert the batch changes easily
  • Be specific about the operation so each worker applies the same minimal change
