What it does
This skill gives an AI agent a detailed playbook for working with Azure Developer CLI (azd), Microsoft's tool for deploying apps to Azure. Once installed, the agent reads the project's azure.yaml and infrastructure code first, follows Microsoft-style conventions for environments, secrets and CI/CD, and asks before running commands that create or delete cloud resources. It also points the agent to reference notes on project layout, infrastructure as code (Bicep or Terraform) and operations.
Great for
- Developers setting up or cleaning up an azd project with Bicep or Terraform infrastructure
- Teams reviewing or migrating an existing azd template before deploying
- Engineers troubleshooting azd environments, hooks or azd-managed GitHub/Azure pipelines
Skip it if
- Projects that do not use Azure: the guidance is specific to azd and Azure resources
- People who want the agent to deploy without reviewing changes: the skill itself asks for confirmation before provisioning or destroying resources, and a loose request could still cause real cloud costs or deletions if approvals are skipped
- Non-technical users with no access to an Azure subscription, since most tasks need one
Try asking
- “Review my azure.yaml and tell me whether the services match the source folders”
- “Set up separate dev and production azd environments for this repo without committing secrets”
- “Migrate this project's infra from Terraform to Bicep, keeping existing resources intact”
- “Troubleshoot why azd pipeline config generated a workflow that fails on the provision step”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip azure-developer-cli.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip azure-developer-cli.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Point the agent at the repository root so it can read azure.yaml and the infra folder before making changes.
- State the target environment, subscription and region explicitly when asking for deploy, provision or destroy actions.
- Ask for a review or plan first (for example a Bicep build or what-if) before approving any real deployment.
