What it does

Once installed, the agent can act as a startup-focused AWS architect: it gathers your app requirements, suggests one of four standard AWS designs (serverless web, event-driven, three-tier, or GraphQL), and drafts infrastructure-as-code such as CloudFormation or CDK snippets. It can also review a current AWS setup for cost-saving ideas and walks through deployment and troubleshooting commands. The bundled Python scripts produce the pattern recommendations, a serverless CloudFormation template, and cost recommendations; the agent then explains the results.

Great for

  • Startup engineers who need a sensible first AWS setup without deep AWS experience
  • Small teams wanting a serverless API with DynamoDB, Cognito and Lambda as a starting template
  • Developers who want a first-pass review of AWS spend before a deeper audit

Skip it if

  • Production or regulated workloads (HIPAA, SOC 2, GDPR) without expert review: the skill lists compliance as an input but the templates are generic starting points and may miss required controls
  • Deploying straight to a live AWS account without reading the templates: the workflow runs AWS CLI commands that create IAM roles and billable resources, and the cost figures are estimates
  • Teams that need a verified cost forecast: the cost and pattern outputs in the examples are illustrative and the scripts use simple built-in heuristics

Try asking

  • “Design a serverless architecture for a startup mobile backend with about 1,000 users and a $300 monthly budget”
  • “Generate a CloudFormation template for a serverless API with DynamoDB and Cognito login”
  • “Review this AWS setup spending $2,000 a month and suggest cost savings”
  • “Walk me through deploying this CloudFormation stack and fixing any failed resources”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 9 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    aws-solution-architect.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip aws-solution-architect.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip aws-solution-architect.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Review every generated template and IAM policy before deploying, and run aws cloudformation validate-template first
  • Use a separate sandbox AWS account with budget alerts when testing the deploy commands
  • Give the agent accurate usage numbers and compliance needs so the pattern recommendation is grounded
