What it does

Once installed, the agent answers AWS questions and plans deployments with security and cost best practices built in. It advises on least-privilege IAM, using roles instead of long-lived keys, encrypting and versioning S3, right-sizing EC2 and Lambda, and keeping security groups closed to the public internet. It can suggest AWS CLI commands and infrastructure-as-code approaches, and it reminds the agent to confirm the account and region before making changes. The skill is guidance only; it does not itself contain scripts or connect to AWS.

Great for

  • Developers or small teams setting up AWS infrastructure who want secure defaults
  • Engineers reviewing an existing AWS setup for IAM, networking, backup or cost issues
  • People learning which AWS services and settings are considered good practice

Skip it if

  • Making live production changes unattended: the skill gives advice, but an agent running AWS CLI commands with your credentials could alter or delete real resources if you do not review each step
  • Compliance or security audits that need authoritative verification: the content is general guidance and may not match current AWS features or pricing
  • Non-AWS clouds or on-premise setups, since the content covers only Amazon Web Services

Try asking

  • “Design a secure VPC with private subnets for a web app backend and a Multi-AZ database”
  • “Review this IAM policy and tighten it to least privilege with specific ARNs”
  • “Estimate ways to reduce my monthly AWS bill for EC2 and S3”
  • “Write a CloudFormation or CDK template for an S3 bucket with versioning and encryption”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    aws.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip aws.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip aws.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Ask for commands to be shown first and run them yourself in a sandbox or test account before using production credentials
  • Give the agent your service, region and workload size so recommendations are specific rather than generic
  • Check any pricing or feature claims against current AWS documentation, since the skill does not cite sources
