What it does

When a short bit of missing context would make advice much better, this skill tells the agent to show you a brief message plus up to three questions, each with tappable answer buttons and a free-text box. The agent then stops and waits for your taps before recommending anything. It also explains when not to do this, such as when you ask for an opinion, a fact, or feedback on writing.

Great for

  • People who want tailored advice on plans, purchases, or choices and would rather tap answers than type long descriptions
  • Users of chat interfaces that support the interactive genui widget format
  • Anyone building or testing conversational assistants that should gather preferences first

Skip it if

  • Simple factual questions or direct requests for an opinion, since the skill tells the agent to answer directly instead (the tool adds delay without benefit)
  • Runtimes without the genui widget renderer, where the buttons will not appear and the output may look broken
  • Situations where the user has already given detailed constraints, since extra questions can feel like second-guessing

Try asking

  • “Help me plan a workout routine (the agent asks about goals, time available, and equipment)”
  • “Help me find a book to read (the agent asks about genres, mood, and recent favourites)”
  • “I'm thinking about getting a pet (the agent asks about lifestyle, living situation, and time commitment)”
  • “Help me pick a gift for my friend (the agent asks about occasion, budget, and interests)”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    answers-ask-user-input.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip answers-ask-user-input.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip answers-ask-user-input.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Answer the multi-select questions with several taps where relevant, since most factors are not mutually exclusive
  • Use the free-text box to add a constraint the buttons did not cover
  • If you already know your constraints, say so up front so the agent skips the questions
