What it does

It teaches an agent how to start another copy of the MiMo coding tool as a separate process, either as a headless command that outputs JSON events or as an interactive terminal session driven through tmux. The agent can then send it tasks, wait for output, and check results with scripts instead of guessing. It is meant for testing and debugging the MiMoCode project itself, not for normal coding work.

Great for

  • Developers contributing to the MiMoCode repository who need behavior, integration, or visual regression tests
  • Maintainers who want CI-style checks of JSON event output from mimo run
  • Anyone debugging a local dev build of MiMoCode from source

Skip it if

  • Ordinary coding or task execution, which the skill explicitly says not to use it for
  • Running against your real MiMo config or session data, since careless use can touch them unless an isolated MIMOCODE_HOME is set
  • Users without tmux or the mimo/bun tools installed, as the workflow will fail

Try asking

  • “Run mimo headlessly on a throwaway workspace and verify that a write tool call completed with exit code 0”
  • “Start the TUI in tmux and wait for a permission dialog to appear before sending a keystroke”
  • “Debug a local mimocode change by running bun dev against a temporary workspace”
  • “Use wait-for-text.sh to poll a tmux pane until a given string shows up or a timeout passes”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Drive MiMo Test HarnessInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 2 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    drive-mimo.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip drive-mimo.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip drive-mimo.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Always set MIMOCODE_HOME to a fresh mktemp directory and use a throwaway workspace so your own config and sessions stay untouched
  • Use --dangerously-skip-permissions only in isolated test workspaces, because it auto-approves every action the driven process takes
  • Check the process exit code rather than looking for a completion event, since the JSON stream has no completion signal
