What it is
This is an unofficial bridge that lets an AI chat app, such as Claude, create and change objects in Blender. A small add-on runs inside Blender and a local MCP server passes commands between the AI and Blender. The README describes it as prompt-assisted 3D modeling and scene manipulation, and it is not made by the Blender Foundation.
- Ask an AI assistant to create, modify or delete 3D objects in an open Blender scene
- Apply and adjust materials and colors through a chat prompt
- Have the AI check its own work using viewport and render views described in the README
- Import assets from Poly Haven or Sketchfab, as listed in the features
Great for
- Blender users who want to try describing scenes or objects in plain language
- People experimenting with AI-driven 3D modeling workflows
- Developers exploring the Model Context Protocol with a real application
- Users who already use Claude, Cursor, VS Code or another supported MCP client
Not ideal for
- Users who need fully predictable, hand-controlled modeling, since AI output may not match intent
- People who do not want to install Python tooling (uv) and an add-on
- Teams needing an officially supported Blender integration, since the README states it is third-party
How to get it
- 1
Install with a package manager
You'll need: Blender 3.0 or newer · Python 3.10 or newer · uv package manager
Run one-command setup (macOS / Linux)
curl -LsSf https://www.mcp-for-blender.com/install.sh | shRun setup if uv is already installed
uvx mcp-for-blender setupInstall the Blender add-on manually
uvx mcp-for-blender install-addon - 2
Run it
- Run the installer or the setup command and pick your AI app
- Fully quit and reopen the AI app
- Open Blender and confirm the add-on is enabled in Preferences
- Press N in the 3D viewport and open the MCP for Blender tab to check the server
- Ask the AI assistant to build something in Blender

Get the most out of it
- Use the Visual verification features so the AI can check multi-angle and render views
- Add the server to more than one supported client, but run only one instance at a time, as the README advises
- Use the Asset and model generation integrations (Poly Haven, Sketchfab, Poly Pizza) for ready-made content
- Review the Environment Variables and Persistent API Credentials sections for optional configuration
Downloads
Strengths
- Connects many MCP clients through a documented setup and a guided setup command
- Keeps existing config and saves a backup of each changed file, per the README
- Open source under the MIT license with a large community following
Trade-offs
- Some asset and AI model generation features depend on third-party services and API keys or a Premium offering
- Output quality depends on the AI model and on how precisely the request is worded
- Requires running a local server, so setup has several steps for non-technical users
