How to use the Zoom CLI Harness agent skill

Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data

The Zoom CLI Harness is an agent skill that lets an AI agent operate Zoom through a command-line tool called cli-anything-zoom, which wraps the Zoom REST API. This guide explains what a skill is, how to install this one, how to ask for work in plain language, and what to watch for before letting an agent touch your meetings and recordings. By the end you will be able to install the skill, log in with OAuth2, and run common meeting, participant and recording tasks through your agent.

Quick start

  1. 1Check requirements. Confirm you have Python 3.10 or newer, a Zoom account with REST API access, and OAuth app credentials.
  2. 2Download and unzip the skill. Download the ZIP from this page and unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ or a project's .claude/skills/ folder, or upload it under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.
  3. 3Install the tool. Run pip install cli-anything-zoom and confirm with cli-anything-zoom --help.
  4. 4Configure credentials. Run the setup command to store your Zoom OAuth app credentials.
  5. 5Log in. Run login to complete the OAuth2 browser flow, then run status to confirm you are authenticated.
  6. 6Ask for a task. Describe the outcome in plain language, naming the meeting, file or date range.
  7. 7Review destructive actions. Check any delete request before the agent runs it, since deletes are permanent.

What is an agent skill and what does this one do?

An agent skill is a folder containing a SKILL.md file that gives an AI agent instructions for a specific task. When the skill is installed, the agent can read those instructions and use the tools they describe. This skill is distributed as SKILL.md and teaches the agent to run the cli-anything-zoom command-line tool.

  • Create, list, info, update and delete Zoom meetings
  • Register or remove participants, including batch registration from a CSV file
  • List attendees of past meetings
  • List, list files for, download or delete cloud recordings
  • Return machine-readable JSON output that the agent can parse

Install the skill from the ZIP download

Download the ZIP for this skill from this page. You can install it in one of three ways: put it in your personal skills folder, put it in a single project, or upload it in the Claude apps.

For a personal install, unzip the file into ~/.claude/skills/. For a project-only install, unzip it into the .claude/skills/ folder inside your project. To use the Claude apps instead, go to Settings → Capabilities → Skills and upload the ZIP there.

  • Personal: unzip into ~/.claude/skills/
  • Project: unzip into .claude/skills/ in your project folder
  • Claude apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills, then upload the ZIP
~/.claude/skills/

Install the cli-anything-zoom command-line tool

The skill needs the command-line tool itself. The package is installed with pip. You need Python 3.10 or newer. The source also lists zoom as something that must be installed on your system, so check that requirement before you start.

Once installed, run the help command to confirm the tool works. The source shows cli-anything-zoom --help for this.

  • Requires Python 3.10+
  • Install with pip using the package name cli-anything-zoom
  • Confirm with cli-anything-zoom --help
pip install cli-anything-zoom

Connect your Zoom account with OAuth2

The tool cannot work without Zoom OAuth app credentials. Use the setup command to configure them, then the login command to sign in through a browser OAuth2 flow. Check your state with status. Saved tokens can be removed with logout.

Login saves tokens on the local machine. If that is not acceptable for your environment, do not use this skill.

  • setup: configure OAuth app credentials
  • login: log in through the OAuth2 browser flow
  • status: check whether you are authenticated
  • logout: remove saved tokens
cli-anything-zoom --help

Ask the agent for work in plain language

You do not need to type commands yourself. Describe the outcome you want and the agent will choose the matching command group: Auth, Meeting, Participant or Recording. The agent is instructed to always use the --json flag, check return codes, parse stderr on failure, use absolute paths for file operations and verify that exported files exist.

Good requests name the meeting, the file or the date range. Vague requests such as 'clean up Zoom' are likely to produce unnecessary or destructive actions, so be specific.

  • 'List my upcoming Zoom meetings and show their join URLs.'
  • 'Register the people in attendees.csv for meeting 123456789.'
  • 'Who attended last Tuesday's team meeting?'
  • 'Download all cloud recordings for the July board meeting to /absolute/path/archive.'

Run the commands yourself (optional)

You can also run the CLI directly. Running the command with no subcommand opens an interactive REPL with tab-completion and history. Add --json before a subcommand when you want structured output. Human-readable output is the default.

Projects can be created with project new and saved to a JSON file. The source documents undo and redo with up to 50 levels of history in the REPL.

  • Interactive mode: run cli-anything-zoom with no arguments
  • Human output is the default; add --json for machine-readable output
  • undo and redo are available in the REPL
cli-anything-zoom --json project info -p project.json

Safety notes before you let an agent act

This skill runs scripts and uses the network. It calls the Zoom REST API, so it needs internet access and a Zoom account with REST API access. Credentials and tokens are stored locally after login.

Delete commands remove data permanently. Recording delete removes all recordings for a meeting. Review any delete action before the agent runs it, and do not let it delete meetings or recordings unsupervised.

  • Uses network access to Zoom's API
  • Stores login tokens locally after OAuth2 login
  • Delete commands for meetings, participants and recordings are permanent
  • Review agent actions that remove data

What people use it for

  • Scheduling and updating a batch of recurring Zoom meetings
  • Registering participants for an event from a CSV file
  • Pulling a list of who attended a past meeting for follow-up
  • Listing and downloading cloud recordings for archiving

Frequently asked questions

How do I install the cli-anything-zoom skill?

Download the ZIP from this page and unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ for a personal install or into .claude/skills/ in a project. You can also upload the ZIP in the Claude apps under Settings → Capabilities → Skills. The command-line tool itself is installed with pip install cli-anything-zoom.

What are the requirements for the Zoom CLI skill?

You need Python 3.10 or newer, the pip package cli-anything-zoom, Zoom OAuth app credentials set up through the setup command, and a Zoom account with access to the REST API. The tool also needs internet access to reach Zoom's API.

Is the Zoom CLI Harness free to use?

The source does not state a price or licence terms for Zoom itself. The skill is listed under the Apache-2.0 licence on this page, but Zoom account and API access are governed by Zoom's own terms.

Why does the agent need OAuth2 login?

The tool calls the Zoom REST API on your behalf, which requires authorisation. The login command runs a browser OAuth2 flow, and the resulting tokens are saved on your local machine. Logout removes them.

Can the agent delete my Zoom recordings?

The tool has a recording delete command that removes all recordings for a meeting, and deletes are permanent. Review any such request before the agent runs it and do not allow unsupervised deletion.

Why does my Zoom CLI command fail?

Start by running status to check authentication, and confirm setup was completed with valid OAuth app credentials. The agent guidance says to check return codes, which are 0 on success and non-zero on error, and to read stderr for the error message.

Our verdict

This skill suits admins, event organisers and developers who manage many Zoom meetings, registrations or recordings and want an agent to handle routine work with JSON output. It is not a good fit if you have no Zoom account or API OAuth app, if you cannot store login tokens on the local machine, or if you want an agent to delete data without supervision.
