How to use the Review Meet Attendance agent skill

Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data

This guide explains what the Review Meet Attendance skill does, how to install it for an AI agent, and how to ask for attendance reports in plain language. It is written for people who have never used agent skills before. By the end you will know what you need in place, how to trigger the skill, and what to check before sharing attendance data.

Quick start

  1. 1Check the prerequisites. Confirm the gws command-line tool is installed and signed in with your Google account, and that the gws-meet skill is available.
  2. 2Download the skill ZIP. Download the ZIP file for recipe-review-meet-participants from this page.
  3. 3Unzip into a skills folder. Unzip the file so SKILL.md sits in ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use or .claude/skills/ inside a project.
  4. 4Or upload it in the Claude apps. In the Claude apps, open Settings, go to Capabilities, then Skills, and upload the skill.
  5. 5Ask for an attendance report. Describe the meeting and the timeframe in plain language, for example asking who attended last Tuesday's call and for how long.
  6. 6Review the results. The agent lists conferences, then participants, then session times, so you can check who joined and for how long.

What is an agent skill and what does this one do?

An agent skill is a folder containing a SKILL.md file. The file gives an AI agent step-by-step instructions for a specific task. This skill, recipe-review-meet-participants, is a recipe for checking attendance on a Google Meet meeting.

Once installed, the agent can list recent conference records, pull the participants for a chosen conference, and then fetch each participant's session times to show who joined and for how long. It does this by running the gws command-line tool, which talks to Google's Meet API on your behalf.

What you need before you install

The skill depends on three things. Check all three before you start, because the skill cannot work without them.

  • The gws command-line tool (Google Workspace CLI), installed and authenticated with a Google account
  • The gws-meet skill, which this recipe loads as a prerequisite
  • Google Workspace access with Meet API permissions for the conference records you want to review

Install the skill: download, unzip and place it

Download the ZIP file for this skill from this page. Unzip it so that the folder containing SKILL.md sits inside one of these locations:

  • Personal skills: ~/.claude/skills/
  • Project skills: .claude/skills/ inside your project folder

Install the skill in the Claude apps instead

If you use the Claude apps rather than a local folder, you can upload the skill instead. Open Settings, go to Capabilities, then choose Skills and add the skill from the ZIP file you downloaded.

How to trigger the skill with natural requests

You do not need to type a command. Describe what you want in ordinary language and the agent will pick the skill when the request matches its description, which is to review who attended a Google Meet conference and for how long.

The skill reads past records. It is not a live view of who is in a call right now.

  • Who attended the Q3 planning call on Tuesday, and for how long?
  • Show me the participants of my most recent Google Meet conference.
  • How long was each person in the interview session with the candidate last week?
  • List the Meet conferences from the past few days so I can pick one.

What the agent runs behind the scenes

The skill runs three steps. The placeholders CONFERENCE_ID and PARTICIPANT_ID are filled in by the agent from the earlier results. You can also run these yourself if you prefer.

  • Step 1: list recent conferences
  • Step 2: list the participants for one conference
  • Step 3: get the session details for one participant
gws meet conferenceRecords list --format table gws meet conferenceRecords participants list --params '{"parent": "conferenceRecords/CONFERENCE_ID"}' --format table gws meet conferenceRecords participants participantSessions list --params '{"parent": "conferenceRecords/CONFERENCE_ID/participants/PARTICIPANT_ID"}' --format table

Safety notes: scripts and network access

This skill runs scripts and uses the network. It calls Google's Meet API through the gws tool, using the account you have signed in with. The API only returns data that the signed-in account is allowed to see, so the skill cannot show you meetings hosted outside your access.

Attendance records can reveal personal information about individuals. Only use the skill on meetings you are authorised to review, such as your own hosted calls or sessions where you have admin or organiser rights.

  • Confirm you have permission to review the meeting before asking for attendance data
  • Do not share attendance output more widely than the purpose requires
  • Review the SKILL.md file yourself if you want to see exactly which commands will run

Tips for getting useful results

Give the agent a time window or meeting name so it can pick the right conference from the list. If the first result is not the one you want, ask it to list the recent conferences again and choose a different one.

  • Ask for a table so the output is easy to scan
  • If results are empty, confirm the gws tool is authenticated with the right Google account
  • If the skill cannot find data, check that your account has Meet API permissions for those conference records

What people use it for

  • Organisers checking who actually attended a recorded or hosted Meet call
  • Team leads confirming participation in training sessions
  • Interviewers confirming how long each candidate session ran
  • Admins reviewing call attendance across recent conferences

Frequently asked questions

How do I install the Google Meet attendance agent skill?

Download the ZIP for recipe-review-meet-participants from this page and unzip it so SKILL.md sits in ~/.claude/skills/ or in .claude/skills/ inside a project. In the Claude apps you can instead upload the skill under Settings, Capabilities, Skills.

What do I need to use this skill?

You need the gws command-line tool installed and authenticated with a Google account, the gws-meet skill, and Google Workspace access with Meet API permissions for the conference records. The API only returns data the signed-in account can see.

Is the Review Meet Attendance skill free?

The skill is published under the Apache-2.0 licence. The source does not state any price, so check the licence and the gws tool's own terms for details.

Can the skill show who is in a meeting right now?

No. The skill reads past conference records, so it cannot give a live view of who is in a call at the moment.

Why is the attendance result empty or missing people?

The API only returns records that the signed-in account can access. Confirm the gws tool is authenticated with the correct Google account and that it has Meet API permissions for those conferences.

Are there alternatives if this skill does not fit my needs?

The source does not compare this skill with other tools. If you need live attendance or access to meetings outside your Workspace account, this skill will not meet that need, so look for a tool built for that purpose.

Our verdict

This skill suits meeting organisers, team leads and admins who have legitimate access to a Google Workspace account and want a record of who joined a past Meet call and for how long. It is a poor fit if you need live attendance, need to review meetings outside your own account, or cannot install the gws tool and the gws-meet skill.
