How to use the pro-editing agent skill for OpenMAIC courses
Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data
The pro-editing skill teaches an AI agent to revise a course that already exists in the OpenMAIC classroom tool. Instead of regenerating content, the agent reads the stored pages and makes the smallest edit that fixes the problem. This guide explains what the skill does, how to install it, how to ask for changes in plain language, and what it needs to run.
Quick start
- 1Download the ZIP. Get the pro-editing ZIP from the directory page. It contains SKILL.md and outline-constraints.json.
- 2Install the skill. Unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use, or into .claude/skills/ inside a project. Alternatively, upload the ZIP under Settings → Capabilities → Skills in the Claude apps.
- 3Open a finished course. Make sure the course is saved in OpenMAIC storage and has finished generating.
- 4Describe the change. Name the page and the problem, for example fix a typo or repair a quiz answer.
- 5Review the plan. For broad requests, check the list of pages the agent proposes to touch before it edits.
- 6Check the result. Look at the edited page in OpenMAIC and confirm that nothing else changed.
What an agent skill is and what pro-editing makes the agent do
An agent skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file that tells an AI agent how to handle one kind of task. When the task matches the skill's description, the agent follows its rules.
pro-editing applies to a course that already has pages. It covers requests such as fixing a page, tuning a layout, repairing a quiz, rewording narration, reordering the deck, or raising the quality of the whole course. It does not cover building a new course from scratch.
- Lists every page in the course first, so the agent edits against the real page list.
- Reads the exact stored data for a page right before changing it.
- Makes one targeted change per request, such as fixing text, moving an element, recoloring a box, repairing a quiz, or reordering pages.
- Avoids rewriting whole pages unless you clearly ask for a full rebuild.
Install the pro-editing skill
Download the ZIP for the skill from the directory page, then choose one of the two install routes below. The skill bundle includes SKILL.md and outline-constraints.json.
For a personal install, unzip the folder into ~/.claude/skills/. For a single project, unzip it into the project's .claude/skills/ folder. In the Claude apps, you can instead upload the ZIP under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.
- Personal: unzip into ~/.claude/skills/
- Project only: unzip into .claude/skills/ inside the project
- Claude apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills, then upload the ZIP
Check the requirements before you start
The skill only works inside the OpenMAIC environment. The agent needs the list_scenes, read_stage, patch_stage, edit_deck and generate_scene tools available, and the course must already be saved in OpenMAIC storage.
If the course is still being generated, the skill treats it as read-only. Wait until generation finishes before asking for edits.
- OpenMAIC runtime with list_scenes, read_stage, patch_stage, edit_deck and generate_scene available
- An existing persisted course in OpenMAIC storage
- The course must be finished generating before editing
Ask for changes in natural language
You do not need special syntax. Describe the problem and the page if you know it. The agent maps your request to the right operation, so a request like fixing one sentence on one slide stays a small text edit.
For broad requests such as make it better, the agent turns your request into a concrete plan against the page list and tells you which pages it will touch before changing anything. Review that list and confirm it.
- Fix the wording of the second bullet on the photosynthesis page.
- Move the image on page 4 so it no longer overlaps the caption.
- Repair the answer key on the quiz at the end of unit 2.
- Reorder the deck so the case study comes before the summary.
- Make the course's visual style more consistent, and list the pages you plan to change first.
Understand how the agent makes edits
The agent reads a page before changing it, then uses one operation for each intent. Text fixes change the text field, position changes change the left, top, width or height values, and page-level changes such as retitling or reordering go through the deck tools.
If a change is rejected, nothing was changed. The agent re-reads the page and tries again rather than forcing the edit. Rewriting a whole page with generate_scene only happens when you plainly ask for a rebuild.
- Text, position, colour, quiz and narration changes are small, field-level edits.
- Whole-page reorders, renames, inserts and deletes use the deck tools.
- A full-page rebuild is used only on explicit request.
Safety notes and tips
According to the skill's listing, pro-editing runs no scripts and uses no network access. Its work happens through the OpenMAIC tools listed above.
The skill refers to a companion skill called slide-craft for edits that touch geometry, colour, text length or rich-text structure. The bundle file list shows only SKILL.md and outline-constraints.json, so confirm slide-craft is installed before you ask for those kinds of edits.
Name the page and the change you want. The more specific the request, the smaller the edit and the less chance of disturbing other pages.
- No scripts are run and no network calls are made, according to the listing.
- Check the page list the agent proposes for broad requests.
- Review the edited page yourself, since the tools do not change your values toward a house style.
What people use it for
- Fixing wording, typos or terminology on a single slide without touching the rest of the page.
- Moving or resizing an image or text box that overlaps another element.
- Repairing a quiz question, its options, answers or scoring.
- Rewording or reordering narration for a page.
- Reordering, renaming or removing pages across a finished course.
Frequently asked questions
Is pro-editing free to use?
The listing states the skill is licensed under MIT. It does not mention pricing, so check the directory page for any other terms. The skill itself only works inside an OpenMAIC environment.
What do I need to run the pro-editing skill?
You need an OpenMAIC runtime with the list_scenes, read_stage, patch_stage, edit_deck and generate_scene tools available, and a course that already exists in OpenMAIC storage. The course must have finished generating.
Where do I put the skill folder?
For personal use, unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/. For one project, unzip it into that project's .claude/skills/ folder. In the Claude apps, you can upload the ZIP under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.
Can pro-editing create a new course from scratch?
No. The skill is for revising a course that already exists and explicitly does not plan replacement stages. Use a different tool or workflow to build a new course.
Will the agent rewrite my whole page when I ask for a small fix?
It should not. The skill makes the smallest possible edit and only rebuilds a page with generate_scene when you clearly ask for a full rewrite.
Does pro-editing work with agents other than OpenMAIC?
Not as described. The skill names OpenMAIC-specific tools, so it needs that environment to work. Agents outside OpenMAIC do not have those tools.

Our verdict
Use pro-editing if you maintain an existing OpenMAIC course and want targeted fixes that leave the rest of the course alone. Pick something else if you need to build a course from scratch, edit a course that is still generating, or work outside the OpenMAIC environment.
