How to use the Local Skill Manager agent skill
Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data
The Local Skill Manager is an agent skill that helps you manage other skills. An agent skill is a folder containing a SKILL.md file that gives Claude extra instructions for a particular task. This guide is for people who already use Claude Code with the oh-my-claudecode plugin and want to create, change or delete their own skills without editing the files by hand. By the end you will know how to install the skill and which commands to type.
Quick start
- 1Install oh-my-claudecode. Make sure Claude Code has the oh-my-claudecode plugin installed, since this skill only works inside that setup.
- 2Download the skill ZIP. Download the ZIP for this skill from the page.
- 3Unzip into a skills folder. Unzip into ~/.claude/skills/ for a personal skill, or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder for a project skill. Alternatively, upload the ZIP under Settings → Capabilities → Skills in the Claude apps.
- 4List your skills. Type /skill list to see built-in, user and project skills organized by scope.
- 5Create a skill. Type /skill add followed by a name, then answer the wizard's questions about description, triggers, argument hint and scope.
- 6Edit or search. Use /skill edit <name> to change a skill, or /skill search <query> to find one by name, trigger, description or content.
- 7Remove a skill. Use /skill remove <name> and answer yes to confirm. The skill folder is deleted only after confirmation.
What the skill makes the agent do
Once installed, the skill gives you a set of commands that look like /skill list, /skill add, /skill edit, /skill search, /skill info, /skill remove and /skill sync. When you use one, the agent reads, creates, changes or deletes skill folders in your user skill directory or in your project's skill directory.
The skill works step by step. For example, when you add a skill it asks for a name, a description, trigger keywords, an optional argument hint and a scope, then creates the SKILL.md file for you. Before deleting anything, it asks you to confirm.
- List: shows built-in, user and project skills in tables.
- Add: a wizard that creates a new skill folder and SKILL.md file.
- Edit: change the description, triggers, argument hint, content or name of an existing skill.
- Search: finds skills by name, description, triggers or full content.
- Remove: deletes a skill folder after you answer yes to a confirmation question.
- Built-in skills that ship with oh-my-claudecode are read-only and cannot be removed or edited through this tool.
Install the Local Skill Manager skill
Download the ZIP file for this skill from the page, then choose one of the two install routes below. The skill's own file is named SKILL.md.
For a personal skill available in all your projects, unzip the download into ~/.claude/skills/. For a skill limited to one project, unzip it into the .claude/skills/ folder inside that project.
If you use the Claude apps instead, you can upload the ZIP under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.
- Requires Claude Code with the oh-my-claudecode plugin installed.
- Needs read and write access to ~/.claude/skills and the project .omc/skills folder.
Trigger the skill with natural requests
You can use the slash commands directly. Type the command, followed by any arguments, and the agent will walk you through the rest. The command format is /skill <command> [args].
The source lists these commands: list, add [name], remove <name>, edit <name>, search <query>, info <name> and sync. Each one follows the same pattern of questions and confirmations described above.
- /skill list
- /skill add custom-logger
- /skill edit custom-logger
- /skill search api endpoint
- /skill remove old-logger
/skill add custom-loggerWhere your skills are stored
User skills are saved in ${CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR:-~/.claude}/skills/omc-learned/<name>/SKILL.md. Project skills are saved in .omc/skills/<name>/SKILL.md inside your repository. Each skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file, and removing a skill deletes that whole folder.
Built-in skills are bundled with oh-my-claudecode in the plugin skills/ directory. The tool can list and read them, but it will not remove or edit them.
- Keep team-shared skills in .omc/skills so they live with the project.
- Keep personal skills in your user folder so they follow you across projects.
Example: create, edit and remove a skill
A typical session starts with /skill add. The source example creates a skill called custom-logger with the description 'Enhanced logging with structured output', triggers log, logger and logging, and scope user. The skill is saved to ~/.claude/skills/omc-learned/custom-logger/SKILL.md, and the agent suggests running /skill edit custom-logger to refine it.
To change the triggers later, run /skill edit custom-logger and choose triggers. To remove an old skill, run /skill remove old-logger. The agent shows the skill's name, description and scope, then asks 'Delete old-logger skill? (yes/no)'. Only a yes deletes the folder.
/skill edit custom-loggerWhat people use it for
- Creating a custom error-handling or logging skill for your own workflow without writing YAML by hand.
- Keeping project-specific skills such as a test runner in a .omc/skills folder inside a repository shared with your team.
- Searching your existing skills by keyword to find one that already covers a task before writing a new one.
- Renaming, retriggering or updating the description of a skill as your workflow changes.
- Cleaning up old or unused skills by removing them after confirmation.
Frequently asked questions
How do I install the Local Skill Manager skill?
Download the skill's ZIP file from the page and unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use, or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder for one project. In the Claude apps, you can instead upload the ZIP under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.
What do I need to use this skill?
You need Claude Code with the oh-my-claudecode plugin installed. You also need read and write access to ~/.claude/skills and the project's .omc/skills folder. The skill does not run scripts and does not use the network, according to the source.
Is the Local Skill Manager free?
The source lists the skill as MIT licensed. It does not mention pricing, so check the licence and the page for any cost details.
Can it delete or edit built-in skills?
No. Built-in skills bundled with oh-my-claudecode are read-only in this tool. You can list and read them, but /skill remove and /skill edit do not change them.
Will it delete a skill without asking me?
No. The skill asks for explicit confirmation with a yes or no question before deleting a skill folder.
Why doesn't /skill work for me?
The skill only makes sense inside Claude Code with oh-my-claudecode installed. Check that the plugin is installed and that the SKILL.md folder is in ~/.claude/skills/ or the project's .claude/skills/ folder.
What are the alternatives to this skill?
The source does not compare this skill with other tools. You can always create or edit a skill by writing the SKILL.md file yourself, which this skill is designed to save you from doing.

Our verdict
This skill is worth installing if you already use Claude Code with oh-my-claudecode and want a guided way to create, search and tidy up your own skills. It is not useful if you have never used Claude Code or oh-my-claudecode, or if you want to change built-in skills, which this tool does not allow.
