How to use the Launch Copy Drafter agent skill (ce-promote)
Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data
The Launch Copy Drafter is an agent skill, a packaged set of instructions that an AI coding agent loads when it needs a specific capability. This one, named ce-promote, reads what you just shipped and drafts short, user-facing announcement copy for channels such as an X post, LinkedIn post, email or changelog line. After this guide you will know what the skill does, how to install it, how to ask for it in plain language, and what to check before you publish.
Quick start
- 1Download and unzip. Download the ce-promote ZIP from this page and unzip it. Confirm the folder contains SKILL.md.
- 2Place the skill folder. Move it to ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use or to .claude/skills/ in a project. Or upload it under Settings → Capabilities → Skills in the Claude apps.
- 3Ship a change. Merge or finish a feature with a pull request, changelog entry or commits so the skill has something to read.
- 4Ask for copy. Request launch or promotion copy in plain words and name any channels you want.
- 5Review the drafts. Read each labeled block and check every claim against the actual change.
- 6Publish yourself. Copy the approved drafts and post them on your own channels. The skill does not post for you.
What the skill makes the agent do
After you ship a feature, ce-promote works out what changed and writes copy that describes what users can now do, rather than how the code works. It reads the pull request title and body if the GitHub CLI is available, the diff summary against main, the top changelog entry, and the last 15 commits. It then writes a one to three sentence summary of the user-facing value before drafting anything.
The skill never posts, publishes, schedules, commits or opens pull requests. It hands you copy-pasteable blocks labeled by channel, and you publish them yourself. If it cannot tell what shipped, it asks one short question instead of guessing.
Install the skill from the ZIP
Download the ZIP for ce-promote from this page and unzip it. Then place the skill folder in one of two locations, depending on how you want to use it.
For all of your projects, put it in your user skills directory at ~/.claude/skills/. To use it in a single repository only, put it in that project's .claude/skills/ folder. Either way, the folder should contain SKILL.md, references/spiral-cli.md and agents/openai.yaml.
If you use the Claude apps instead of the file system, open Settings, go to Capabilities, and upload the skill under Skills.
- Personal: ~/.claude/skills/
- Single project: .claude/skills/ inside the repository
- Claude apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills (upload)
Trigger the skill with a natural request
The skill is set so the agent does not run it on its own. You invoke it by asking for launch or promotion copy for something you shipped. You can describe the feature and the channels you want in the same message, and the skill uses that description as the source of truth.
Its argument hint suggests something like 'a tweet thread and a LinkedIn post'. If you name no channels, you get a default X post or short thread plus a one-line changelog blurb.
- Write launch copy for the CSV export I just merged.
- Draft a tweet thread and a LinkedIn post about the new dark mode.
- Promote the billing fix from the open PR as a changelog line only.
Review the drafts and pick what to publish
Each draft appears in its own labeled block. If you have the optional Spiral tool connected, you also see a session_id and a link for each draft so you can edit it in the Spiral web app. You can ask for a different tone, length, angle, more variations or another channel. Keep the number of variations modest: the skill caps extra options at about three per channel.
Check every claim against what really shipped before you post. Drafts can overstate a feature, especially when the pull request description is thin.
Optional: connect Spiral for brand-voice drafts
Spiral (the @every-env/spiral-cli package) is an optional writing tool. When it is installed and logged in, the skill drafts in your brand voice. When it is missing or not logged in, the skill offers setup once and then drafts from general editorial and social writing guidelines. The skill works without it.
The skill checks Spiral's status with a command and offers to install and sign in only once. If you decline, that choice is recorded and the offer stops for that repository.
which spiral
spiral auth status --jsonSafety notes: scripts and network access
This skill runs scripts and uses the network. The commands it runs include git to read the diff and log, the optional GitHub CLI gh to read the pull request, and the optional Spiral CLI commands for status and drafting. Read SKILL.md and references/spiral-cli.md before installing if you need to know exactly what runs.
The API key for Spiral is handled by the login flow and does not pass through the agent or into the chat. Non-interactive runs skip the Spiral offer and go straight to direct drafting.
- git and gh read repository and pull request data only
- Spiral calls are wrapped so a missing or failing CLI does not block the skill
- No posting, publishing, scheduling, committing or PR creation
What people use it for
- Turning a merged pull request into an X thread and a changelog line.
- Drafting a LinkedIn paragraph that explains why a fix matters to users.
- Writing a short product email to a newsletter list after a release.
- Producing a 3-6 beat demo script for a feature walkthrough video.
Frequently asked questions
Is the ce-promote skill free?
The source gives the licence as MIT, which covers the skill's code. It does not state pricing for the Claude apps or Spiral, so check those services directly before you rely on them.
What do I need to install ce-promote?
You need the skill folder placed in ~/.claude/skills/ or a project's .claude/skills/, or uploaded in the Claude apps. git is needed to read the diff and commits. The GitHub CLI gh and the Spiral CLI are optional.
Does the skill post to X or LinkedIn for me?
No. The skill only drafts copy. It never posts, publishes, schedules, commits or opens pull requests, so you copy the drafts and publish them yourself.
Do I need Spiral to use it?
No. Without Spiral the skill drafts directly from general editorial and social writing guidelines. With Spiral installed and logged in, drafts are matched to your brand voice.
Why does the skill ask me to check the drafts?
Drafts can overstate what shipped, so a human should review public claims before publishing. This matters most when the pull request description is vague.
Can the skill work in a repository where it cannot read git history?
It is not recommended. The source notes that without access to git history or the pull request, the drafts would be guesses about what changed.

Our verdict
Use ce-promote if you ship features and need clear, first-draft announcement copy without waiting for a marketing pass, and you will review the claims yourself. Pick something else if you need final brand or legal sign-off on public statements, or if your repository cannot give the agent access to git history or the pull request.
