What it does
Once installed, the agent follows a set of rules for working with spreadsheet files: it uses Excel formulas instead of pasting in calculated numbers, applies consistent formatting (such as blue inputs and black formulas in financial models), and checks the workbook for formula errors such as #REF! or #DIV/0! by running a recalculation script. It also gives guidance on reading and writing data with pandas and openpyxl. The bundled Office helper scripts cover Word and PowerPoint files, which this spreadsheet skill mostly does not use.
Great for
- Analysts or finance staff who want an agent to build or fix a model with live formulas
- People cleaning up messy CSV or Excel data into a proper workbook
- Developers automating spreadsheet generation with Python
Skip it if
- Tasks where the main deliverable is a Word document, HTML report or database pipeline, since the skill says not to trigger for those (wrong tool for the job)
- Recalculating sensitive workbooks on a shared machine without reviewing the scripts first, because recalc.py runs code and LibreOffice (risk of unexpected execution)
Try asking
- “Add a total row and growth-rate formulas to the sales.xlsx in my downloads folder”
- “Clean this messy CSV with misplaced headers and turn it into a formatted workbook”
- “Build a 5-year revenue model with assumptions in separate cells and blue input formatting”
- “Convert this TSV file to a spreadsheet and check it for formula errors”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Name the file explicitly or give its path so the skill triggers reliably.
- If your workbook already has a template, tell the agent to match it; the skill says existing conventions override its default formatting.
- Review the recalculation output and ask the agent to show the error summary before trusting a model.
