What it does

Once installed, the agent can plan and run a black-box penetration test against a running website or web app, such as a staging server or a local dev server. It looks for real weaknesses like login bypass, broken access control, injection, XSS, and SSRF, and tries to exploit each one so the report shows a working proof rather than a guess. It also explains how to set up test accounts, scope, and budget before the scan starts.

Great for

  • Developers who want a security check on a staging site before release
  • Teams with a multi-tenant app who need to test whether one customer can access another's data
  • Engineers who have the source code and want deeper coverage of authorization logic

Skip it if

  • Testing a third-party website you do not own or have written permission to test, because active exploit payloads can cause harm and may be illegal
  • Running directly against production without care, since the agents send real exploit payloads and may create or modify data

Try asking

  • “Pentest our staging site at https://staging.example.com using the QA test account, focusing on access control between orgs”
  • “Run a quick Strix scan against my local dev server on port 3000 before I merge this branch”
  • “Do a deep pre-release security test of our web app, including the GitHub repo for white-box analysis”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Web App Penetration TestingInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    web-app-penetration-testing.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip web-app-penetration-testing.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip web-app-penetration-testing.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Provide at least two test accounts so the agent can attempt cross-account access, which is where the most serious bugs usually appear
  • Always set --max-budget and confirm scope and out-of-scope paths such as billing or email before running
  • Re-run the PoCs yourself and re-test after fixing; a clean exit code alone does not prove full coverage
