What it does
This skill lets an AI agent look up how much of several viruses and other germs is showing up in California sewage, using public government datasets from the CDC and the state health department. The agent reports the pathogen, the place covered, and the latest data date, along with CDC's own activity level and week-over-week trend. Because sewage captures infections whether or not people get tested, the agent can give an early signal, roughly 4 to 7 days ahead of clinical case counts.
Great for
- Californians deciding whether to travel, attend events or visit vulnerable people based on current COVID or flu levels
- Health-curious people who want a local view of respiratory virus trends
- Analysts or journalists tracking California pathogen surveillance over time
Skip it if
- Medical decisions or diagnosis: this is population-level data, not an individual test, and it cannot tell you whether you are infected
- Places outside California: the skill is limited to California and will not report national or other state data
- Real-time readings: the data is published on government schedules and is typically days to a week old
Try asking
- “What are the COVID numbers before my trip to Los Angeles?”
- “How are flu and RSV looking in California wastewater this week?”
- “Is flu actually up in my region?”
- “Give me the multi-pathogen wastewater panel for the last 12 months.”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Set up a Config.md with your county and FIPS codes to get a regional view instead of statewide only.
- Always check the data date in the answer, since figures are not real-time.
- Ask for the dataset reference if you want to verify a number yourself.
