What it does

This skill gives the agent a detailed playbook for the Hugging Face Transformers library, a widely used toolkit for pre-trained AI models in language, vision, audio and multimodal tasks. Once installed, the agent knows how to set up a compatible Python environment, load models from the Hugging Face Hub, run quick inference with pipelines, control text generation, and fine-tune models with TrainingArguments. It also documents authentication with Hub tokens and migration notes for the v5 release.

Great for

  • Python developers building NLP, vision or audio prototypes on pre-trained models
  • Data scientists fine-tuning an open model on their own labelled data
  • Engineers migrating code from Transformers v4 to v5

Skip it if

  • Non-technical users who only want to chat with a model; no coding setup is needed for that and the skill adds little (the agent could do it without the skill)
  • Production deployments with gated or custom-code models without a security review, since loading remote code runs untrusted code and the skill warns to review it first
  • Users who need TensorFlow or JAX, since v5 is PyTorch-only

Try asking

  • “Load a sentiment classification model from the Hub and classify a list of customer reviews”
  • “Fine-tune a small text model on my CSV of labelled support tickets using Trainer”
  • “Write a script that generates text with a causal language model using sampling settings I choose”
  • “Migrate my existing Transformers v4 training script to v5”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Hugging Face TransformersInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 7 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    transformers.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip transformers.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip transformers.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Use a dedicated virtual environment so the pinned Torch, Datasets and Hub versions do not conflict with other projects.
  • Store your Hugging Face token with hf auth login or a secret manager, never in scripts or git; prefer read-scope tokens.
  • Only enable trust_remote_code for models whose custom code you have reviewed, and pin an exact revision commit.
