What it does

When installed, the agent reads a source (a YouTube video transcript, a web page, a file, pasted text, or the current conversation) and rewrites its main idea as a short narrative in the first person, using the user's own voice notes if configured. It can output a 3-part story, a version with inline links, a 5-line abridged summary, or a numbered CSE list where each point stands alone and can be posted to social media. A bundled checker script verifies that the output matches the requested format and length.

Great for

  • Creators who want social-ready posts summarising videos or articles in their own voice
  • Marketers repurposing long content into short numbered points
  • People who want a consistent personal voice across explanations after completing the one-time setup

Skip it if

  • Multi-source research or investigation, which the skill says belongs to a separate Research skill
  • Original social posts or blog drafts not based on a source, since the skill is built around summarising one source
  • Anything published under your name without review: the skill's own guidance says the user reviews and owns the output, and it can drift from the source

Try asking

  • “Create a story explanation for this YouTube video”
  • “Give me a CSE with 12 points about this article”
  • “Story explanation with links for this URL”
  • “Give me an abridged 5-line summary of this page”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Story Explanation WriterInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 13 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    StoryExplanation.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip StoryExplanation.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip StoryExplanation.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Run the Setup.md steps first so the explanations use your real voice rather than generic defaults
  • Name the length you want (for example 'CSE 12' or 'with links, 10 sentences') so the format checker can verify it
  • Review every output before posting, since the skill cuts filler but cannot verify facts beyond the source it read
