What it does

Once installed, the agent recognises short codes like M4 (mood 4 of 5) or W (workout just done) and saves them to a personal, timestamped journal stored on your own machine. It then acknowledges the entry in one line without asking follow-up questions. When you ask how you are tracking, it summarises each dimension's latest value and how old it is, and points out what has not been logged recently.

Great for

  • People who want near-zero-effort mood and habit tracking inside their AI agent
  • Users of Claude Code or a LifeOS setup who want state data to correlate with sleep, workouts or mood later
  • People comfortable running a small Bun/TypeScript tool on their own computer

Skip it if

  • Anyone wanting a clinical or medical mood tracker: it is a personal journal with no clinical basis, and it does not import health data despite the mention in its notes
  • Users who do not want a local log file written under their Claude config folder
  • Users looking for life-goal percentage scoring, which the skill explicitly routes to a different tool (Telos)

Try asking

  • “M4 slept badly last night”
  • “e4 cf3”
  • “just worked out”
  • “how am I tracking”
Step-by-step guide: how to use StateLog Mood JournalInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 4 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    StateLog.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip StateLog.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip StateLog.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Run the Setup.md first-time setup so the agent knows what each dimension means to you and skips repeated warnings about a missing config.
  • Keep the journal private: the files live under LIFEOS/USER/STATE/ and the skill says they should never enter public artifacts, so do not commit that folder to a public repository.
  • Use bare letters like W, K or A for habit events and digits for ratings; a bare rating letter such as M is treated as an error.
