Makes the agent check framework code against official docs and cite sources before writing it

What it does

When installed, the agent stops writing framework-specific code from memory. It first identifies your project's library versions from dependency files, fetches the relevant official documentation page, and writes code that follows the documented patterns, noting deprecations and conflicts. It then cites the source URLs in code comments and in its replies so you can check each decision yourself.

Great for

  • Developers building with fast-changing frameworks like React, Django, or Next.js where APIs shift between versions
  • Teams who want code with traceable, checkable references for review
  • Anyone starting boilerplate that will be copied across a project

Skip it if

  • Simple edits like renaming variables or fixing typos, which don't depend on library versions and which the skill itself says to skip
  • Quick throwaway tasks where you want speed over verification, since the process adds fetch steps and delay
  • Environments without web access, because the skill depends on fetching documentation pages and cannot verify against them offline

Try asking

  • “Add a login form to my React 19 app using the current recommended pattern and cite the docs”
  • “Set up Django authentication for my project and show me the official source for each step”
  • “Review this routing code and tell me whether it matches the current framework documentation”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Source-Driven DevelopmentInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    source-driven-development.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip source-driven-development.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip source-driven-development.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Name the framework and version you use up front so the agent can check the right documentation pages
  • Ask for a specific feature rather than a whole app so the agent fetches the most relevant docs page
  • Review the cited URLs yourself for anything critical, since the agent's summaries of documentation may still contain errors
