What it does
Teaches the agent the house rules for writing its own agent skills: when a skill is worth creating, how to structure the SKILL.md file, how to keep the frontmatter description valid and short, and where to put templates and reference docs. Once installed, when you ask the agent to make a new skill, it follows these rules instead of improvising. It only changes how the agent writes instruction files; it does not run code or touch your data by itself.
Great for
- Developers who maintain a set of reusable agent skills and want new ones to match a consistent style
- Teams standardising how AI instructions are written in a repository
- People new to agent skills who want the agent to draft a well-formed SKILL.md
Skip it if
- Anyone wanting a skill for a specific end-task like reports or design work; this only helps build other skills, and it does not know your domain (reason: wrong tool for the job)
- Projects that do not use SKILL.md-style agent instructions (reason: the rules assume that format and the referenced style guide)
- Trusting the output without review: generated skills become instructions an agent follows, so a bad or overbroad skill can steer future behaviour (reason: instructions are unverified text)
Try asking
- “Create a new skill for our Jira ticket format”
- “Turn this repeated code review checklist into a reusable skill”
- “Update the existing deploy skill so its description has valid trigger words”
- “Make a skill that documents how our team writes API migration notes”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip skill-creator.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip skill-creator.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Describe the repeated pattern and who will trigger it, so the agent can write a clear trigger-word description
- Review the generated frontmatter: the description must be one quoted line of 250 characters or fewer
- If your repo has docs/skill-style-guide.md, make sure it is present so the agent uses the fuller rules rather than the built-in fallback
