What it does
When installed, the agent can search the Semantic Scholar database for peer-reviewed journal and conference papers (such as IEEE, ACM and Springer venues), not just arXiv preprints. For each result it shows the title, venue, year, citation count, authors, DOI links, and any free open-access PDF or short summary. It runs a bundled Python helper script that calls the Semantic Scholar web API to do this.
Great for
- Researchers doing a literature review who need published venue papers rather than preprints
- Students looking for highly cited foundational papers on a topic
- People who already use the arXiv skill and want to fill gaps with venue-only publications
Skip it if
- Anyone needing the very latest unreviewed preprints, since arXiv is the better source (reason: this skill targets published work)
- Sensitive or confidential research queries, since search terms are sent to an external web API (reason: network use)
Try asking
- “Search semantic scholar for IEEE papers on federated learning for wireless networks, minimum 50 citations”
- “Find journal papers from 2022 onward on graph neural networks - max: 20”
- “Fetch details for DOI 10.1109/TSP.2021.3071210”
- “Find conference papers on citation search sorted by citation count - sort: citations”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Use the default filters or add - type: journal to cut noise from broad queries
- Use exact venue names with the venue option, since partial names like IEEE will not match
- Check the arXiv ID field in results to avoid duplicating preprints you already have
