What it does
Once installed, the agent knows how to write and check quantum programs using the Qiskit SDK. It can build circuits, run them on local simulators (including noisy ones), prepare circuits for real IBM quantum hardware, and submit jobs through the V2 Sampler and Estimator interfaces. It also points to reference notes on migration, transpilation, visualization and testing, and includes small scripts that check the installed environment and inspect IBM backends or run local examples.
Great for
- Developers learning or prototyping quantum algorithms with Qiskit
- Students who want working, verified Qiskit 2.x code for circuits and measurements
- Researchers moving code from local simulation to IBM quantum hardware
Skip it if
- People without an IBM Quantum account who only need hardware runs, since real QPU execution requires credentials and network access
- Open-system or differentiable quantum machine learning, where the SKILL.md itself recommends QuTiP or PennyLane instead
- Production workloads that spend paid QPU time without review, because the examples submit real jobs to hardware
Try asking
- “Build a 3-qubit GHZ circuit and simulate 2048 shots locally with StatevectorSampler”
- “Transpile my parameterized VQE ansatz once for an IBM backend and set up Estimator observables”
- “Check my Qiskit environment versions and tell me what to fix”
- “Explain how to read counts from a circuit with multiple classical registers”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip qiskit.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip qiskit.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Keep API keys in saved credentials or environment variables, never in prompts or code, and ask the agent to follow the setup reference.
- Ask for a local simulation first and only request IBM hardware runs after you have reviewed the circuit and expected cost.
- Save the job ID printed by the agent before waiting, so you can retrieve results later.
