What it does
Once installed, the agent follows a set workflow for merging outside contributors' pull requests into a GitHub repository. It triages open PRs, prefers GitHub's squash merge so the contributor stays credited, handles conflicts locally by fetching the PR branch and merging it, supports partial merges that skip certain files, closes duplicate PRs with a thank-you comment, and runs lint and tests before pushing. It also includes a checklist so attribution is not lost.
Great for
- Maintainers of open-source repositories who regularly receive external pull requests
- Teams that want consistent, contributor-credited merge practices documented for an AI agent
Skip it if
- Solo projects or private repos with no outside contributors, where the attribution workflow adds little value
- Anyone who may run it against a repository they do not maintain or have permission to push to, since it includes commands that push to main and close PRs
- Workflows that rely on force-pushes or rebasing shared branches, which the skill's own pitfalls warn can remove contributor commits
Try asking
- “Merge the clean open PRs in this repo using squash merge and keep the contributors credited”
- “Handle the conflicting PR #123 by fetching its branch and resolving conflicts in a separate commit”
- “Selectively merge PR #87 but exclude CHANGELOG.md and the file we already implemented locally”
- “Close PR #45 as superseded by PR #52 and leave a thank-you comment”

Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip pr-merge.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip pr-merge.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Review the triage list yourself before letting the agent merge or close anything, since merges and pushes to main are hard to undo
- Ask the agent to run the lint and test commands and confirm they pass before the final push
- Check git log afterward to confirm the original author appears on the merged commits
