What it does

This skill tells an AI agent to act like a careful senior developer reviewing a codebase. The agent reads the project's main flows, then reports what could break, what is unsafe, what would fail under heavy use, what lacks a test, and what code could be removed. The report is ordered by importance and each finding comes with a concrete example and a small suggested fix. It is a one-shot report and does not change any code.

Great for

  • Developers who inherited a codebase and want a prioritized list of risks before changing anything
  • Teams preparing a project for more users or traffic and wanting a scale check
  • Maintainers who want to find dead code, duplicated helpers and unnecessary dependencies

Skip it if

  • Quick style or formatting reviews, because the skill explicitly skips style opinions (it focuses on correctness and risk)
  • Very large repositories where a full read is impractical; the agent is told to go deep only where mistakes cost most and to list what it skipped
  • Non-developers expecting a guaranteed security audit; the report depends on what the agent reads and can run, so it can miss issues

Try asking

  • “Audit this whole repo for bugs and security problems, most important first.”
  • “Check whether this backend can handle many users at once and what would break under load.”
  • “Find code in this project that can be deleted or merged, and count the lines and dependencies I could drop.”
  • “Review the billing folder only and tell me which parts lack tests.”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Repo Quality AuditInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    ponytail-audit.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip ponytail-audit.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip ponytail-audit.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Name the folder or package you care about, so the agent goes deep there instead of skimming the whole repo.
  • Tell the agent the expected load (for example one script run versus thousands of users) so scale findings are judged fairly.
  • Ask for fixes by number, such as 'fix 2 and 5', and review each suggested change before applying it.
