What it does

This skill makes the agent act as a critical patent examiner for a patent application you are drafting. It reads your claims, specification, prior art report and invention disclosure, then sends them to an external reviewer model (GPT-6-Astra via the Codex MCP server) to get a formal-style office action covering clarity, support, enablement, novelty, obviousness and claim scope. The agent then proposes fixes, re-submits the revised text for a second round, and writes a PATENT_REVIEW.md report with an issue table and scores.

Great for

  • Inventors or patent drafters who want stress-testing of claims before filing
  • Patent agents or attorneys looking for a second-opinion checklist of rejection grounds
  • Teams already using the ARIS research automation toolkit with Codex MCP configured

Skip it if

  • Legal advice: the output is an AI simulation of an examiner, not a substitute for a registered patent attorney, and it may miss jurisdiction-specific practice or misstate statute details.
  • Applications without the expected patent/ folder layout (CLAIMS.md, specification/, PRIOR_ART_REPORT.md): the workflow assumes those files exist and will struggle otherwise.
  • Confidential inventions if you are not comfortable sending the full claims and specification to an external model provider via the Codex MCP server.

Try asking

  • “Review my patent claims in patent/CLAIMS.md against the specification and tell me what an examiner would reject.”
  • “Run a patent review on the patent directory focusing on 112 clarity and written description issues.”
  • “Give me an examiner-style office action for my draft application under EPO standards.”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Patent Examiner ReviewInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    patent-review.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip patent-review.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip patent-review.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give the agent a complete, current set of claims and spec sections; the review quality depends on the input files.
  • Provide the prior art report so the examiner has real references to cite; without it, novelty and obviousness findings are speculative.
  • Treat the score and rejection grounds as a checklist to verify against the actual statute and a patent professional's judgment before filing.
