What it does

When you ask for a paper plan, the agent reads your existing research notes, review conclusions, and experiment results, then drafts a structured outline of the paper section by section. It respects page limits and formatting norms for a chosen venue such as ICLR, NeurIPS, or IEEE journals. It can optionally use a reference paper to copy the structural layout (section order, subsection density, figure count) without copying its wording or claims. The skill's own text includes an optional step that may invoke an external reviewer model to critique the outline, but the file shown does not show all of that workflow.

Great for

  • Researchers who have results and need a clear structure before drafting a paper
  • Students planning a thesis chapter or conference submission against a page limit
  • Teams who want an outline checked against venue-specific requirements

Skip it if

  • Writing the full paper text: this skill produces an outline and plan, not finished prose, and the outline still needs human judgement on the claims.
  • Projects with no experiment results or review notes: the skill falls back to asking you to describe the contribution in 3-5 sentences, so output will be thin.
  • Users who expect a fully automatic, unreviewed pipeline: the reviewer step depends on external model access and may be unavailable.

Try asking

  • “paper outline for my ICLR submission based on AUTO_REVIEW.md and the experiment logs”
  • “plan the paper for NeurIPS, 9 page limit, using my STORY.md”
  • “论文规划 for my IEEE Transactions manuscript, include references in the page count”
  • “paper plan with style-ref: the reference paper arXiv 2501.12345”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    paper-plan.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip paper-plan.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip paper-plan.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Put your narrative and review conclusions in the project folder first so the outline draws on real evidence rather than a short description.
  • Specify the venue explicitly (for example NeurIPS or IEEE_JOURNAL) because page limits and reference counting differ.
  • Check the outline's claims against your actual results before drafting, since the agent can only plan from what it reads.
