What it does
Once installed, the agent works as an editor for scientific papers. It improves existing academic prose (wording, flow, tightness, and Chinese-to-English translation) while keeping facts, terminology, and evidence limits intact. It picks guidance matching the paper type, section, language and target journal (Nature, Nature Communications, or Nature Machine Intelligence), and flags structural problems it cannot fix without inventing content. It can also fix LaTeX layout problems such as stranded headings and figures splitting across pages, but only by compiling and visually checking the rendered output.
Great for
- Researchers preparing a manuscript for a Nature Portfolio journal who want a style pass
- Chinese-speaking authors translating and polishing an English paper draft
- Authors who need a manuscript cut down to a word or length limit without losing evidence
Skip it if
- Drafting new sections or rebuilding a paper's argument from scratch; the SKILL.md says to use the separate nature-writing skill for that
- Submitting text unchecked: polished wording can still shift claims or numbers, so a human author must verify facts and terminology
- Anyone expecting official journal policy; the guidance is described as corpus-derived, and the target journal's current rules take precedence
Try asking
- “Polish the Results section of my manuscript for Nature Communications and keep every claim within the evidence.”
- “Translate and tighten this Chinese draft of my Discussion section into academic English.”
- “Cut the main text of my paper by about 15% without removing key evidence.”
- “Fix the LaTeX layout so the stranded heading and split figure on pages 6–7 are resolved.”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Name the target journal and section up front so the agent loads the right guidance instead of defaulting to generic rules.
- For layout work, provide the compiled PDF or log and ask for before-and-after rendering checks.
- Review every change against your data yourself, especially numbers, terminology and claim strength.
